The only reason I'm selling this rig is I've found a
completely original military low mile M38A1 in need of an engine and want to
restore it instead. This M38A1 started its life with the Marine Corp Base in
Yuma AZ. It was purchased and then stored for the few years in Williams AZ where
I found it. Clear AZ title Serial number #26741 Delivery date 10/52 USMC Has a
new engine, appears to have almost no miles on it, runs smooth and quiet, no
leaks, everything is dry. Starts, runs, shifts, steers, stops excellent. Brakes
feel brand new, transmission is tight, shifts sweet, never does the "T90 2nd
gear pop out", clutch is great etc. Everything is tight, feels like very low
original miles. Has an excellent, dry, very straight, AZ body. The only rust
I've found is the usual spot on the passenger side below door, under the fuel
tank and a tiny bit in the hat channels. This is an excellent candidate for a
full military restoration. Contact Jim at 602 435 2110 |

| M38 for sale, converted to 12 volt, runs and drives excellent, has all the little thing usually removed, almost completely rust free. Would be a great restoration candidate. email bozwell13@hotmail.com for pictures and more details. $5000 as is | 1/30/08 | ||||||

This rig is almost completely rust free and very, very straight but needs (and
deserves) a total restoration in the hands of someone talented and experienced.
The good stuff: It has a great body, the grill, dash, gas tank, windshield and
tailgate are awesome, tub is excellent with only surface rust and 2 small spots
(see pictures) rusted through under the gas tank, the rest, even the toolbox
floor is outstanding. Has a clear AZ title and would be an excellent candidate
for a military restoration. The Bad stuff: The previous owner started taking it
apart to do his own "frame off" rebuild. Steering is unbolted, body is unbolted
from the frame, brake lines have been removed etc. If you are looking for a "put
in a battery, gas and go project", this is not the rig for you. There's no glass
in the windshield frame, wiring is a mess, has the wrong motor (overhead valve
rather than the flathead) is missing most of the military goodies. The data
plates are missing. The frame's rails from the bumper back are perfect, super
straight and a home made rack and cage which if I have time, I will remove and
throw away! The seats are incorrect, the original brackets were cut and mid 60s
CJ5 seats were installed, not that there's much left of them. I will happily
throw them away to save the buyer from seeking a dumpster. The tires in the
pictures are off my other willys, I'm having a set mounted on the solid steel 15
inch wheels that came with this rig as I type this ad. The tires/wheels in these
pictures are NOT included but it will have a matched set of tires and wheels
when sold. Nothing I hate more than a rig I can't roll around as I work on it
and no, it didn't come with the original M38 wheels, wish it did. If this looks
like something you're interested in undertaking, feel free to email me with
questions, what you need to see in additional pictures etc. Jim Boswell - 602-435-2110 |
